Rape-accused security guard denied bail
News in short
A 24-year-old security guard has been accused of raping a 27-year-old woman in Karibib on Friday night.
Police in the Erongo Region confirmed the incident, which reportedly took place about a kilometre from the town near a gold mine. According to warrant officer Tuyenikelao Tashiya, the suspect - Saviour Tjiveze - and the victim met for the first time on 19 April at around 11:00 and exchanged cellphone numbers.
"At around 22:00 on the same day, Tjiveze allegedly called the victim and they met at a service station in Karibib. Tjiveze allegedly asked the victim to get into his service vehicle. He drove to an isolated place and threatened to kill the victim if she does not cooperate. He then forcefully had a sexual act with her," she said.
Tjiveze was arrested and appeared in the Karibib Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where he was denied bail. His case has been postponed to 17 June.
