Psychiatric patient kills roommate
A 34-year-old man was arrested on Friday in Onhuno village in the Ohangwena Region after he allegedly beat his 65-year-old grandmother to death with a wooden object.
According to the police, the man lived with his grandmother. They reported that the suspect allegedly struggled with mental health difficulties.
It is alleged the elderly woman had approached her grandson to ask him to stop making noise, and he allegedly started beating her with a wooden branch, which led to fatal injuries.
In a separate incident, a 27-year-old patient at the Windhoek Hospital’s psychiatric ward allegedly killed his roommate.
It is alleged that 30-year-old Petrus Geingob died from strangulation.
According to the police, a registered nurse went to their room to hand out medication and discovered Geingob's body.
The suspect remains in the psychiatric ward, pending the necessary detention documents to be obtained from court on Monday.

In another incident, in Swakopmund’s Mondesa area, a 23-year-old woman was raped on Friday by two men wearing masks.
It is alleged that she was walking home with a friend in the early hours of Friday morning when the two suspects threatened the women with knives and robbed them.
They then instructed the victims to enter their passwords on their phones.
One of the women complied and was forced to leave the scene after the men threatened her with a knife.
Her companion stayed behind. One of the suspects kicked her to the ground, and they took her about 400m away from scene of the robbery, where she was raped by both men.
After the suspects left, the woman walked to a nearby residential area, and was assisted and taken to Swakopmund State Hospital for medical treatment. No arrests have taken place yet.
In another incident, a 42-year-old Angolan national was arrested on Friday on charges of rape of a minor.
He was accused of raping a 12-year-old girl on several occasions at Ekuku village in the Okankolo area.
The assault was reported only last week, and the girl was taken to the hospital and the crime was reported.
