Police in the Kavango West Region have arrested a colleague, a 32-year-old Namibian police officer stationed at Ncaute Police Station, for allegedly raping a female inmate. The suspect was taken into custody yesterday and is set to appear before the Rundu Magistrate's Court today.

According to Kavango West police regional commander, Commissioner Julia Iuze Sakuwa-Neo, the man allegedly raped the woman on at least two separate occasions – Wednesday, 22 January, at around 16:00, and Thursday, 23 January, at approximately 06:00 – inside the police station holding cells. The suspect, while on duty, allegedly forced himself on the 22-year-old inmate without her consent.

The woman remains in police custody at the holding facility, while investigations into the case continue under the provisions of the Combating of Rape Act, Act 8 of 2000.
