Police report multiple weekend suicides
Several Namibians died by suicide over the past weekend, according to a police report.
A 52-year-old Namibian man reportedly died by suicide on Friday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the late morning hours at Uuthikilo village.
Another suicide is being investigated in Ouhongo village, that of Fillemon Hamalwa Kondjeni (30).
At Omumbonde village, police reported the suicide of a 47-year-old Namibian woman. She was found in her home in the early morning hours.
In all three cases, no suicide note was left behind, no foul play was suspected, and their next of kin have been informed, Namibian Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi said.
In another case, a 44-year-old Namibian woman from Otjiwarongo died by suicide over the weekend. She was found after her family had searched for her and a neighbour discovered her body.
A suicide note was found in her room, but the details were not disclosed by the police.
On Saturday, a 31-year-old Namibian man was also found after he took his own life.
Inquests
According to Shikwambi, the police are also conducting an inquest into the death of an elderly woman (82) who was found on 31 August in her bedroom in Oshakati by her niece, who went to check up on her.
In a similar case in the DRC location, it is reported that the body of a two-month-old baby girl was discovered by her mother upon returning to their room after the baby had been left alone.
The child's mother had reportedly gone to a neighbour's house to drink, during which time the infant suffocated.
