Police officer behind bars for drug smuggling
News in short
Tjizake Ndjoze (31), a police officer who stands accused of smuggling drugs worth N$8 000 into police holding cells, was denied bail after making his first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate's Court earlier this week.
Ndjoze appeared before magistrate Rosalia Andima, who postponed the case to 15 August for further investigation.
Ndjoze informed the court that he would obtain private legal representation.
State prosecutor Annakleta Kandjimi said the accused is believed to be part of a drug syndicate.
"We believe this is a syndicate, and we fear it will not be in the public interest to release the accused on bail," Kandjimi said.
According to the police, a tip-off was received informing the authorities about a police officer smuggling drugs into the Walvis Bay Police Station holding cells.
The suspect was arrested on 29 June at about 21:20 in Walvis Bay. Upon arrest, the suspect was found in possession of 110 grams of cannabis, 30 grams of majad, nine mandrax tablets and three units of crack cocaine.
