Police investigate multiple rape, attempted rape cases
A 34-year-old man allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl in Oshakati on Friday, a police crime report has stated.
According to the police, the girl was playing with friends when the suspect, who is the victim's neighbour, called her and allegedly asked her to go to the market.
It is further alleged that when the suspect gave the victim the money, he grabbed the girl by the arm, dragged her into his room and raped her. The man has been arrested.
A 31-year-old man was also arrested on a charge of attempted rape of a 27-year-old woman in Uuyoka village in the Oshikoto Region.
According to the police, the suspect threatened the victim with a knife and then attempted to rape her. When the assault failed, the suspect robbed the woman of N$1 043. The suspect was arrested, but the money has not yet been retrieved.
In Khorixas, a 22-year-old man was also accused of the attempted rape of an 18-year-old woman on Saturday.
“It is alleged that the arrested man grabbed the victim by the hand, forcibly dragged her behind the church and attempted to rape her. A passerby is said to have observed the incident and alerted the police.”
The police report also stated that a male domestic worker employed in Ohamatundu village in the Oshikoto Region is wanted by police in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old girl. It is alleged that the suspect raped the victim on various occasions during the day when the victim's parents were away.
