Ohangwena learners busted for smoking weed at school
Two grade eight learners at Tweufila Samuel Nepunda Combined School were arrested yesterday morning for allegedly smoking marijuana at school.
The suspects, whose ages are unknown, were caught smoking inside the school toilet.
This was confirmed by Ohangwena Region education director Isak Hamatwi.
He could, however, not divulge any further information, adding that the area’s education inspector had yet to forward him the full report.
He said this is the first time drug use at school is being reported in the region, but admitted that they are aware of cases of marijuana being grown in some villages.
According to a report, the suspects allegedly smoked the marijuana during the third period, at around 09:25.
Preliminary investigations have uncovered that the suspects allegedly planted the marijuana at one of the boys’ homes.
“When their house was visited by both the police and the school management, a pack of dagga was found [as well as] a young growing dagga plant, planted in the valley of tomatoes,” the report read.
The case was reported to the police and both suspects were arrested. They are expected appear in court today.
