Among the multiple cases of violent crimes and drug-related offences reported over the weekend, police say they have arrested two men accused of murdering their girlfriends.

Police are investigating the murder of Sophia Tases (26), who reportedly died after she was stabbed, allegedly by her boyfriend.

Police say he struck her three times on the left side of her neck early on Saturday morning in the Sonop location of Hoachanas settlement.

The police say they were told the couple had argued on Friday, leading Tases' 27-year-old boyfriend to pack his belongings and move to another house.

However, he allegedly returned in the early hours of Saturday and stabbed her while she was in bed. He has been arrested.

In a similar case in Omuthiya, 21-year-old Emilia Gustaf died after she was stabbed in the chest by her 27-year-old boyfriend.

The incident occurred on Saturday at around 19:00 in Oshiteni village, Oshikoto Region, the police incident report notes. The man has been arrested.

Security guard stable after attack

According to reports, the couple had an argument, resulting in the fatal stabbing. Her next of kin have been informed.

Police are also investigating the stabbing of a 32-year-old security guard close to midnight on Friday at an Otjomuise shopping centre.

According to the police, the guard was stabbed twice – once below the left armpit and once on the left hand.

The police report noted that the stabbing reportedly took place during an argument between the security guard and a group of men, which escalated into a violent attack. A 37-year-old man was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

The man is in stable condition and receiving treatment at Katutura State Hospital, police said.

Drugs, suicide

On Friday, multiple arrests were made for drug possession and dealing.

In BlikkiesDorp, Grootfontein, two men, 21 and 29, were arrested in separate incidents for possession of mandrax tablets and cannabis, with a combined estimated value of N$2 830.

In Swakopmund, three suspects (aged 24, 25 and 29) were arrested at the Shoprite complex for allegedly dealing in cocaine and cannabis worth N$6 750.

Later, a 41-year-old foreign national was arrested near the Strand Hotel for possessing cocaine valued at N$10 500. Police suspect he intended to sell the drugs.

Additionally, in Mondesa, a 26-year-old man was arrested for possessing 47 grams of cannabis. Police say it has a street value of around N$2 350.

On Saturday, 8 February, two suicide cases were reported. In Wanaheda, a 26-year-old man's body was found near the Goreangab Dam reclamation water plant. His next of kin have not yet been informed.
