Man robbed while rendering assistance

NEWS IN SHORT
Shaldon Johannes
Four armed men stole a bakkie on Monday at about 20:00 at Mile 11 outside Swakopmund.

Police Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said Melvin Araeb was travelling alone in his white double-cab bakkie on the main road from Swakopmund towards Henties Bay.

"When he came to Mile 11, he saw a silver Polo parked in the middle of the road. According to him, he stopped to assist, thinking that the vehicle was broken and suddenly four male persons armed with a firearm jumped out and took his vehicle with all his belongings, including his iPhone, and drove in the direction of Henties Bay."

Araeb walked back to Swakopmund and called a friend who picked him up at the service station and took him to the police station. The vehicle has not yet been recovered, and no arrest has been made yet.

Contact Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu at 081 2464757 or Warrant Officer Auchab at 081 2766844 or any nearest police station if you have any information that could assist in the police investigation.
