Man robbed of jewellery worth over N$200 000
An Ongwediva resident was reportedly robbed of expensive jewellery, including a chain valued at N$141 000, on Wednesday evening.
Police in the Oshana Region are now requesting public assistance in the event that the items are offered for sale.
According to Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo from the Oshana community policing subdivision, a case of robbery with aggravating circumstances was reported to the police.
Three suspects allegedly attacked and robbed the man as he arrived to his home in the Better Housing suburb. When the victim got to his gate, he saw that a silver Toyota Corolla had stopped behind his car. Three men jumped out and ran towards him, he said.
“One of the suspects had a pistol. Two of them came to the victim while the other one got into the victim's car and started searching it, but did not find anything,” Aiyambo said.
The two suspects who harassed the victim grabbed his chain, ring, bracelet and car key, after which the suspects ran to their vehicle and drove off, he added.
Aiyambo said the chain, ring and bracelet are valued at N$141 000, N$23 000 and N$43 600 respectively. No arrests have been made and the stolen items have not been not recovered. Police investigations continue.
Man wakes up to robbers
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a 32-year-old man was fast asleep when four suspects broke into his house in Oshakati's Ehenye suburb during the early morning hours of Wednesday.
Aiyambo said the victim woke up during the robbery and started shouting at the suspects. "The victim did not know that one suspect had a pistol. The suspect fired a shot, then the victim fell down. Two of the suspects then started searching the room,” he said.
Aiyambo added that the suspects further demanded money and told the victim “we came to rob, not to play".
The suspects stole a blue smart phone valued at N$2 000 and a wallet worth N$500, which contained the victim's bank and identity cards.
Car keys as well as clothes were allegedly also stolen. No arrests have been made, and police investigations continue.
