A 31-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her boyfriend on Sunday before the man proceeded to hang himself.

The incident took place at Okapya kaMbidhi village in the Omusati Region’s Ogongo constituency.

According to police spokesperson, Commissioner Moses Simaho, Johannes Nashama Shikongo (38) hit his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kandali Simon, with a metal object to her forehead, resulting in a skull fracture.

It is further alleged that Shikongo then hung Simon’s body from the roof of their shack with a steel wire in an attempt to cover up the crime.

Simon worked for Shikongo’s parents as a domestic worker, and they lived in the same house.

“It is alleged that the suspect and the deceased were seen fighting on Friday, 15 July, at around 23:00 by a neighbour. The reason for their fight is unknown,” Simaho said.

Shikongo died by suicide after hanging himself, also with a steel wire, from a nearby tree.

His body was discovered by his son.

Simon originally hailed from Uukwangula village near Oshakati.

Shikongo reportedly left a suicide note, but police have not made its content public.

Investigations into the matter continue.
