Man arrested for punching female police officer

A female police officer received medical treatment at Rehoboth after she was allegedly punched in the face by a 30-year-old man last weekend.

The man, who was driving a sedan, was pulled over by the police officer and was requested to do a breathalyser test. He fled from the scene, leading to a chase and his arrest, police said.

“It is further alleged that the suspect beat the police officer with a fist to her face and her spectacles caused a deep open wound above her eye and on her cheek. The police officer was rushed to the hospital and was discharged after receiving stitches,” a police report read.

Man stabs girlfriend

According to the police, a woman is in critical condition after her boyfriend allegedly stabbed her with an okapi knife in Outapi. The suspect reportedly stabbed her in her right shoulder and the left side of her head, where the knife got stuck. The man was charged with attempted murder.

Another man was arrested at Mururani in the Kavango West Region after he allegedly burnt down his girlfriend's hut. Police said the man had allegedly returned from an outing with the victim’s father and demanded that she go to his residence, but she refused. He then reportedly set fire to her hut, burning all her clothing and her identity documents in the process. The suspect was arrested and charged with arson.

Meanwhile, a Zambian man died after he and a Namibian man were allegedly attacked by a hippo near Luhonono in the Zambezi Region. “The men had gone fishing and the deceased allegedly fell into the water after the attack. He died at the scene.”

‘Thief’ shot, killed

A man was shot and killed at Onanke village in the Oshikoto Region after he allegedly attempted to break into the room of a female supermarket employee. She alerted her colleagues of the attempted break-in, and the alleged thief briefly hid in a toilet before running away.

A security guard fired shots and one of them struck the intruder in the upper chest, killing him instantly. The 25-year-old guard was arrested and his service weapon was confiscated, police said.

In other news, a 28-year-old man is in critical condition after he was allegedly stabbed with a sharp object in Walvis Bay’s Kuisebmond.

According to the police, the victim sustained severe open wounds to his shoulder and torso. No suspects have been arrested.

Fuel theft

Three men allegedly stole 75 litres of petrol from TransNamib in Tsumeb. The suspects were driving a sedan and fled with three containers of petrol, a police report read. The fuel reportedly belongs to Vivo Energy Namibia.

A 41-year-old man - suspected to be the driver - was arrested, and the vehicle was impounded. The other two suspects are yet to be arrested, and the petrol has not been recovered.

In another, unrelated incident, a 41-year-old man was allegedly arrested in Oshifo in the Omusati Region after being found in possession of 435 litres of petrol without a permit. “The fuel was confiscated,” police said.
