Man arrested for alleged knobkerrie assault

Tuyeimo Haidula
A 26-year-old man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly attacked another at Onakamwandi village in the Ondangwa area with a knobkerrie, leaving the victim heavily wounded.

A case of attempted murder has been opened against the Angolan national.

Chief Inspector Thomas Aiyambo from the Oshana community policing subdivision confirmed the incident and said the suspect has been arrested and is due to appear in court this week.

Aiyambo said the incident was reportedly preceded by a quarrel at a bar between the suspect and 32-year-old victim.

“Violence occurred after the victim walked away to go home and the Angolan allegedly followed him, caught up with him and hit him thrice on the head with a knobkerrie. He sustained serious injuries to the head," he said.

In a separate incident, Aiyambo said Oshana Region police arrested a 30-year-old suspect last week accused of operating an illegal fuel business in the Uupindi informal settlement of Oshakati.

“He was found in possession of more than 200 litres of fuel imported illegally from Angola. Another suspect was arrested at the same location on the same day after 40 bags of Best whisky worth N$4 000 were found in his vehicle,’ Aiyambo said.
