A case of suspected domestic violence has shaken the Hochfeld area in the Okahandja district, following the murder of 31-year-old Laina Iiyambo at Olundago Farm on Sunday night.

Iiyambo died from fatal injuries sustained after being attacked with a panga, allegedly by her boyfriend.

According to police reports, a 24-year-old Angolan national has been arrested on a charge of murder. He was reportedly employed as a farmworker and was in a relationship with Iiyambo, a Namibian national, who worked on the same farm.

The suspect is accused of repeatedly attacking Iiyambo with a panga, inflicting fatal wounds to her arms, neck and head. Authorities confirmed that she died at the scene.

Police inspector Maureen Mbeha, a community liaison officer in the Otjozondjupa Region, said: “This is a deeply disturbing case that highlights the ongoing threat of domestic violence in our society. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic loss of life.”

The suspect is expected to appear at the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court later this week.
