Lab technician steals medical test kits
A laboratory technician at Ongwediva allegedly stole test kits for gonorrhoea, HIV/Aids viral load, hepatitis B viral load PCR, blood culture bottles and other laboratory test kits valued at N$500 000 from his employer.
The suspect, Kenyan citizen Otieno Haggai Wycliffe Odhiambo (47), appeared before the Oshakati Magistrate's Court on Wednesday and was denied bail.
He was arrested on Friday. According to the police, the theft took place between 3 March and 27 March 2022.
Magistrate Toini Shilongo denied Odhiambo bail on the grounds that may abscond.
The case was postponed to 19 April for a formal bail application.
Murder case
Meanwhile, police in the Ohangwena Region have arrested a 17-year-old boy for allegedly stabbing a man at a bar on Wednesday night.
Deputy Commissioner Sakaria Amakali said the stabbing happened just after midnight at an informal settlement in Helao Nafidi.
Amakali said the suspect stabbed Salomo Immanuel Haihambo (28) in the chest with a pocket knife.
Haihambo was declared dead on arrival at the Engela District Hospital.
The deceased and the suspect were neighbours in Onamwilwa village.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court this week.
