Girl (7) raped in Ongwediva
News in short
Police in the Oshana Region have opened a case against a 17-year-old boy for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl on more than one occasion at Mkwanambwa location in Ongwediva.
According to a crime report, the alleged rapes occurred during 2020 and again during October 2023, but were only recently reported to police by the victim's mother.
Oshana crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, said it is alleged that the victim in the past informed an uncle that she was bleeding after allegedly being raped. The uncle reportedly informed her stepfather to take her to the hospital, but according to records, this was not done.
Ndjadila said the suspect is believed to have been 13 years old when the rape first happened, while the victim was three. “Investigations revealed further that the same child was raped again during 2020 by the same suspect [and] was not taken to the hospital, but was rather bathed with salt water,” he said.
The suspect has yet to be arrested. Police investigations continue.
