Fraudster impersonates bank official to steal N$60 000

A 56-year-old Namibian woman fell victim to fraud after receiving a phone call from an individual pretending to be a representative of Bank Windhoek. The suspect, posing as a bank official, convinced the complainant to disclose sensitive banking details by providing seemingly legitimate instructions over the phone.
Following the instructions, the victim unknowingly enabled the suspect to transfer N$60 000 from her personal bank account. No recovery of the stolen funds has been made, and the suspect remains at large.
According to police, investigations are ongoing to trace the fraudster and establish how the scam was executed. Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and to never share personal banking information over the phone.
