Four lives lost as man sets shack alight
Woman watches sister, nieces burn to death
Less than 24 hours before her death, 23-year-old Josephine Nauses laid a complaint against her boyfriend regarding a domestic matter.
A man murdered his girlfriend and her two children and took his own life when he allegedly set fire to the shack they were living in in Karibib on Sunday.
According to Erongo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, the woman (23) made a complaint about her boyfriend at a police station the day before regarding a domestic matter, and said she wanted him removed from their home. "The matter was attended to by the police and it was resolved that he remove his belongings, which he kept at a shack belonging to the victim's sister. After the warning, he promised not to return to the shack."
The man, however, returned at about 05:00 on Sunday morning and was convinced to leave by the victim's sister, but he returned again at around 06:00.
"The deceased allegedly called her sister again and informed her that he had broken into the home and forced his way inside. The sister ran to the shack and pushed open the door and found it burning, with the two children screaming on the bed while the boyfriend was holding onto the victim, pushing her into the corner of the shack and stopping her from escaping the fire. It is suspected that the man set the shack alight, resulting in the death of the victim, her two children and himself," Shapumba said.
Next of kin have been informed and the victims have been identified as Josephine Nauses (23) and her daughters Regina Nauses (7) and Loide Nauses (3).
The man was identified as Mandela Afrikaner Mbaunguraiye (25).
Police investigations continue.
