Five minors raped
At least five rape cases involving minors were reported to the police last week, with the youngest victim being a seven-year-old girl.
Last Wednesday, a girl (7) was raped by a 20-year-old Angolan national at the Onanyege village in the Omuthiya area.
It is alleged the man called the girl into his bedroom and raped her. They were apparently left alone at home by the girl’s parents who went to fetch water.
When the parents returned, they heard the girl crying in the man’s room while the suspect was raping her, police said. He has been arrested.
In another incident at the Iindongo yakeelu village in the Omuthiya area, an 11-year-old girl was raped by two men aged 20 and 21 years old last Wednesday.
It is alleged the two suspects called the girl into their bedroom and both raped her.
Raped at knife-point
Also last Wednesday, a 14-year-old girl was raped at knife-point in Groot Aub by a 46-year-old man.
Afterwards, he allegedly threatened to kill her and burn down her room. The suspect has been arrested.
In a separate incident the same day, a 13-year-old girl was raped at Farm Reinveld on the Outjo-Otavi road by a 42-year-old man.
The incident apparently took place in the suspect’s bedroom. He has since been arrested.
At Oshampula village in the Okankolo area, a 15-year-old girl was raped by a 39-year-old man last Thursday.
It is alleged the man called the girl into his bedroom, locked the door and raped her.
According to the police, they were alone at his house and the man apparently threatened to beat the girl if she reported it to anyone.
The girl, however, informed the man’s wife, who is her aunt. The suspect has been arrested.
Pensioner assaulted
Meanwhile, a 75-year-old woman was assaulted by her 36-year-old son in the Bunya village of the Kavango West Region’s Kapako constituency last week.
According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday when the man took a box of eggs and hit his mother’s face with it, causing bruises. He apparently also grabbed her and pushed her to the ground, causing further bruises to her knees, and verbally insulted her. He has been arrested.
