Erongo police intelligence-led operations saw a total of N$64 520 worth of drugs seized across Erongo on Wednesday.
An alleged drug carrier caught with pears stuffed with crack cocaine was among those arrested in a series of police operations that saw a total of N$64 520 worth of drugs seized across Erongo on Wednesday.
Multiple arrests were made, Erongo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba confirmed.
In the 'fruitful’ interception, a suspect was arrested after officers stopped a public transport vehicle in Swakopmund at around 20:00.
The bus, which was en route to Oshikango, was carrying a parcel disguised as pears that contained 100 units of crack cocaine worth N$10 000. A 30-year-old man was taken into custody.
Precision strikes
Earlier in the day, officers raided a house in Arandis at around 13:00 after receiving information that individuals were actively packaging drugs.
The operation resulted in the confiscation of 821 grams of cannabis (skunk), 60 full mandrax tablets, one half and two quarter mandrax tablets, as well as four blocks of crack cocaine. The street value of the drugs is estimated at N$50 370.
Two suspects, aged 27 and 32, were arrested.
Earlier the same day, at around 12:00, another raid was conducted at a different house in Arandis following reports of drug dealing. Officers recovered 26 grams of skunk and 23 full mandrax tablets, along with one half and one quarter tablet. The drugs are valued at N$4 150. A 20-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the case.
“These arrests demonstrate that the police are vigilant and acting on credible intelligence to disrupt drug activities,” Shapumba said, urging the community to continue providing information that can aid in further crackdowns.
He reiterated the police’s commitment to tackling drug-related crimes in the region.
All suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
