Couple arrested for killing own baby

A couple from farm Swartberg in the Karasburg area has been arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill their four-month-old baby girl and burying her in a shallow grave.
Their employer noticed the disappearance of the baby and confronted them, to which they responded that they sent the baby to the north to relatives.
However, they appeared to be acting suspiciously and the matter was reported to the police for investigation. Upon investigation, a shallow grave with the baby’s remains was found.
The incident reportedly occurred in November 2022. However, the case was only reported at Karasburg police station on 16 January.
Both parents were arrested pending police investigations and have been detained at the police station. The remains were ferried to the Keetmanshoop police mortuary for an autopsy.
