Councillor allegedly skips Geingob vigil prep to rape man
A Swapo local authority councillor reportedly arrested for rape at Gobabis this week skipped preparations for a vigil in memory of late president Hage Geingob to commit the act in a toilet at the venue.
The 34-year-old suspect - who is a former deputy mayor of Gobabis - allegedly lured a 19-year-old man into a toilet at the Omaheke Regional Council offices where preparations for the vigil were underway, and told him to undress.
The fact that the councillor was at the venue to help prepare for a commemorative event for the deceased Swapo president and head of state, and ended up allegedly raping the victim, has angered many party members in the region.
This more so because the ruling party lost that local authority to the opposition in the 2020, and is hard at work to regain control.
A police source told Namibian Sun: “He unzipped the boy’s pants and started licking his penis. The councillor was performing the woman’s role during the act. We are told this is not the first time he was having sex with the boy”.
Namibian Sun understands that the complainant was at the council office seeking a testimonial for a job application he intended to submit.
“Because the councillor knows the boy, the moment he saw him in the building, he instructed him to go to the toilet and followed him soon after,” the source said.
After performing oral sex on the victim, the councillor reportedly forced the younger man to penetrate him.
Charged with rape
Traumatised, the complainant is said to have notified his parents about the incident when he got home. The parents immediately contacted the police, leading to the arrest of the councillor, who cannot be named pending his scheduled appearance in the local magistrate’s court this morning.
Omaheke police deputy commissioner Chris Kalimbula confirmed the arrest yesterday, saying the councillor has been formally charged with rape.
“In the past, this would have counted as sodomy because it’s sex between men. But nowadays, people accused in a situation like this are charged with outright rape.”
