Arrest after Grootfontein farm robbery
A 37-year-old Namibian man, who is also wanted in connection with a murder case inTsumeb, was arrested in connection with the robbery on farm Friedrichstahl in the Grootfontein district.
He will appear in the Tsumeb Magistrate's Court today regarding his alleged involvement in the murder case, where after he will also appear in the Grootfontein court at a later date in connection with the robbery of 70-year-old Udo Gärtner and his wife.
During the robbery, five suspects pretended to be police officers - one dressed in a police uniform and the other in reflective gear - and robbed the unsuspecting Gärtners. They left with cash, jewellery, mobile phones and weapons worth N$178 116.20.
The suspect, a resident of Grootfontein, was apprehended at the roadblock on Otjiwarongo last Tuesday. One of the pistols and laptops that were stolen during the robbery were found in his possession.
During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to law enforcement where he had hidden the clothes he wore during the robbery - in a plastic bag in the woods. The person who dropped off the suspects at the farm before the robbery is also currently being held for questioning.
The stolen items were identified by Gärtner as his property.
Four more suspects are wanted in connection with the case, with police saying they are currently following up on all leads to apprehend them.
