Armed robbers on the run with N$1.5 million
The search is on for a group of thieves who robbed a cash in transit vehicle on Saturday between 08:30 and 08:40 at MotoVec in Walvis Bay.
Inspector Ileni Shapumba, unit commander for community affairs in the Erongo region, confirmed the incident, saying that a cash in transit vehicle belonging to Namibia Protection Services was allegedly robbed by armed men as the security guards were busy loading cash boxes into the vehicle.
"The robbers took cash boxes containing N$1 589 643.07. The money had been collected from various shops including Woermann Brock branches in Kuisebmond and Narraville; Woermann Seagull and Woermann Shoreline, USave Kuisebmond, Metro Cash and Carry and MotoVec. Seven boxes of money were taken by the thieves who used a white Corolla Quest with a GRN number plate as a getaway vehicle. The robbers also took a 9 mm Makarov pistol, and Itell cellphone and a Motorola hand radio from the three security guards who were on duty."
Shapumba said that the police are pursuing the matter and called on anyone with information about the incident to contact the nearest police station.
