An Angolan man was arrested on Monday at Omeyantalala village in the Oshikoto Region after admitting to killing a fellow Angolan national last week and burying his remains in a shallow grave at their homestead.

It is alleged that last Tuesday, the accused hit Tchilondilo Walumbula (24) three times with a hoe handle on the left side of his face. He died on the spot.

The accused then wrapped Walumbula’s body in a brown blanket and buried it in a hole he dug.

He told Namibian Sun he killed Walumbula because Walumbula wanted to report him for smoking. This after their employer had warned them to refrain from such activities.

Missing

According to Ndinelao Shiweda, one of the neighbours who spoke to Namibian Sun at the scene, they noticed that Walumbula had gone missing and started questioning the accused, who told them the deceased had gone to Windhoek because he got a new job.

"We could not believe that he went to Windhoek without telling us. We kept on insisting, until [the accused] told us that he murdered [Walumbula]," she said.

Tobias Petrus, who employed the Angolan pair, described the deceased as hardworking and dedicated.

"I have known [Walumbula] since 2015. He would go to Angola and come back every holiday.”

Petrus added that the news was a shock to him and feels bad as he was planning to dismiss the accused from his job.

"[The accused] has been stealing my livestock, and I was planning to come and dismiss him," he said.

Village headman Ananias Hainane said this is the second incident within weeks that has left community members in shock.

In the first, a man allegedly ambushed an old woman who lives alone and raped her.

"People who commit crimes of this nature should be removed from the community. This is giving a bad image to our village," he said.
