101 arrested for drugs in September

While more 101 suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related matters last month, the various drugs seized in these arrests were valued at slightly more than N$680 000.

The suspects arrested were 93 Namibians, two Angolans, two Congolese, one Tanzanian and one South African national.

According to the drug seizure and arrest report, drugs to the total value of N$681 333 were confiscated.

This included 63 856kg of cannabis to the value of N$638 653, 94 mandrax tablets valued at N$11 280, 14 grams of cocaine powder to the value of N$7 000 and 254 units of crack cocaine valued at N$24 400.

In comparison, in August, drugs worth more than N$2.035 million were confiscated and police arrested 148 suspects.

Of these suspects, 136 were Namibians.

Last year between February and December, 1 171 suspects were arrested in connection with drug-related crimes.

According to statistics from the Namibian Police, during this period, drugs to the value of more than N$37.4 million were confiscated in Namibia, while 1 073 Namibians were arrested.

Statistics for January 2021 were not available.
