Oshana governor Elia Irimari has applauded the preparatory committee of the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF), saying the hosting of a business symposium is testament to their continued efforts in making sure the event is bigger and better than the previous year.

He made the remarks at the opening of the 23rd edition of the OATF on Saturday.

The trade fair is being held under the theme ‘Bridging tradition and innovation’. He said this theme resonates deeply with the transformative journey the region and the nation is embarking upon.

“[OATF] has grown remarkably over the years, becoming a dynamic platform where tradition meets innovation. It is a celebration of our rich cultural heritage and a testament to our forward-thinking spirit. This fair provides an invaluable opportunity for businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase their products, exchange ideas and forge partnerships that can drive economic growth and development,” Irimari said.

He added that as Namibians navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world, it is crucial that they embrace innovation while honouring their traditions. This balance, he said, is essential for sustainable development and the prosperity of communities.

“The theme reflects our commitment to integrating modern advancements with time-honoured practices, ensuring that progress does not come at the cost of our cultural identity. I encourage all participants to make the most of this event. Engage with each other, explore new opportunities and let this fair be a catalyst for creativity and collaboration.”

Meanwhile, MTC managing director Licky Erastus described the theme as fitting, especially considering the pace at which technology is evolving.

As a nation, transitioning from traditional ways and adapting sophisticated, smart and innovative methods of driving business is what all Namibians should embrace in order to remain relevant, and be on par with global technology trends, he noted.
