FNB sponsors 2024 journalism awards
Bank supports journalism excellence
FNB Namibia announced a sponsorship of N$250 000 towards this year’s Editors’ Forum of Namibia Journalism Awards.
The sponsorship will go towards organising the awards, which will include cash prizes for winners in two categories: Business and Finance Journalist of the Year and Journalist of the Year.
In a statement, FNB Namibia described itself as a strong advocate of press freedom and recognised journalism's critical role in an independent and democratic Namibia.
“The sponsorship underscores the bank's commitment to transparency, accountability and collaboration,” FNB Namibia chief marketing officer Tracy Eagles said.
“Journalism is a fundamental part of our society; assisting the EFN in awarding the tireless efforts of Namibian journalists is but the least we can do as members of the private sector.”
Reflecting on the state of journalism in the country, Eagles continued: “Over the years, outstanding Namibian journalists have consistently demonstrated an unwavering level of dedication, passion and excellence in ensuring our nation is both educated and informed at all times. We are proud to support an organisation that celebrates and awards that excellence.”
EFN chairperson Frank Steffen expressed his gratitude for the partnership, adding that the awards would not be possible without the generosity of supporters like FNB Namibia.
“We are grateful to have a partner who values and recognises the remarkable work of Namibian journalists. Their dedication to their craft ensures the public is informed timely, objectively and truthfully about events that impact their lives in various ways.”
FNB Namibia previously sponsored the EFN Journalism Awards in 2018, 2021 and 2023 and says it is honoured to continue this partnership in 2024.
The awards are set to take place next week on 14 November at the Windhoek Country Club Resort.
