Amupolo to take over as Namdia CEO
Former PowerCom CEO Alisa Amupolo is set to be appointed as CEO of Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia), Namibian Sun can confirm.
The Namdia board wrote to acting public enterprises minister Iipumbu Shiimi in May this year, seeking his approval to appoint Amupolo as CEO.
Shiimi took the matter to Cabinet, where Amupolo’s appointment was given the green light.
Her appointment, however, has been stalled by former CEO Kennedy Hamutenya’s case at the office of the labour commissioner.
Slight delay
Hamutenya’s contract was not renewed when it expired in June this year. In response, he dragged his ex-employers to court, citing unfairness.
He was not among the shortlisted candidates for the position, which was advertised late last year.
Amupolo joined PowerCom as CEO in March 2016 and left the company after her five-year contract was not renewed.
She holds a master's in international communications from the University of Leeds as well as a BA degree in media and communications studies from the University of Namibia.
After a four-pronged interview process, she came in first, ahead of Lukas Ndjamba, who came in second, and Namdia’s current acting CEO, Lelly Usiku.
