The team from My.Na Properties recently paid a visit to the flagship Agra Hyper branch in Lafrenz, Windhoek, to find out about how the business has grown, and what the team offer to help your crops, livestock or home garden grow now that the weather is warming up.

Agra Hyper manager Corne van Niekerk took us on a tour and showed us some of the stand-out products and brands they offer to make your summer shine.

“Since Agra Hyper opened its doors in August 2015, we’ve worked tremendously hard to ensure that we can offer clients, no matter their needs, a one-stop shop for everything related to agriculture, camping, leisure equipment, weapons, groceries and more,” he explained.

“We love our work, especially because we are able to assist farmers, the people rooted in the soil of Namibia, which is an incredible privilege. Not only are they great customers, but we’ve also developed real friendships with many of our loyal clientele, and witnessed their growth over the years, making working at Agra so much more gratifying,” he added.

Everything under one roof

“With summer coming into full swing, many people are planning to go camping and enjoy outdoor activities. We have everything from camping equipment, tents, braai accessories and even an array of groceries so clients need only stop at their local Agra and then be on their way to enjoy the beautiful outdoors,” he said.

“We also stock everything one needs for DIY work, gardening, urban or large- scale farming, so all you need to do is stop by and we can assist with everything from seeds fertilisers, tools, implements and even expert advice to make your crops flourish come the rainy season,” Van Niekerk added.

Animal care

Livestock, pets and other animals are an invaluable part of any farm or home. This makes their care and maintenance a top priority for each Agra outlet across the country.

“Our dedicated animal medicine section carries the widest array of products and brands to ensure you have everything you need to keep your animals healthy and productive, while still being cost-effective and affordable. Our knowledgeable staff are always happy to assist, and constantly receive training on new products, applications and best practices in the industry."

Passion for growth

Growing plants at home, or crops on the farm, also necessitates care for the most ideal outcomes. Thankfully, whether you’re gardening at home or hoping for a bumper harvest, Agra has everything you need - from seeds and fertilisers to pesticides and implements to help your crops or foliage grow optimally.

“In our gardening department, we have four sections. The one covers a full range of pesticides, physical pest traps and deterrents. Then we have a wide variety of seeds, from small packets for the home gardener to commercial quantity size for the large-scale farmer. From there, we have the fertiliser section, where we also cater to both the hobbyist and commercial agri producers, after which we also stock every size and kind of plant pots and related equipment,” he boasted.

Rooted in agriculture

A core part of their business lies in their feeds store and materials stockyard, where farmers can source top-quality feeds and licks to bolster animal diets, while also stocking up on all forms of building materials for upgrading and maintaining your farm’s infrastructure.

Moving with the times

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Agra teams across the country were ready and able to continue their essential service and product provision to the critical agriculture sector.

“We introduced a delivery service to assist customers who weren't able to travel as normal, as well as making concerted efforts to minimise foot traffic and keep our clients and employees safe and healthy. I’m proud to report that we had no lay-offs or direct loss of life during that time,” Van Niekerk said.

With 4 300 shareholders and more than 800 employees, Agra has certainly established itself as a significant Namibian business. It remains the preferred destination for the Namibian farmer as well as non-farming retail and wholesale clients, offering quality products at reasonable prices backed by trusted advice and excellent client service.
