After a relatively quiet start to the year, the Namibian social scene is finally picking up. tjil put together a list of events you should not miss out on this weekend.
'Legendary Producers Concert'
Scheduled for Saturday, 9 March, at The Catch, the 'Legendary Producers Concert' promises an electrifying showcase of Namibia's musical talent, hosted by Liezel Ndjaronguru. The evening's line-up boasts an array of celebrated artists, including Adora, D-Naff, TopCheri, Ethnix, Sunny Boy, Ras Sheehama, Sally Boss Madam, D-Jay and Bertholdt, among others - setting the stage for an unforgettable night of performances. The concert aims to benefit the often-overlooked struggles faced by music producers. "We envision this as an annual event with proceeds benefitting producers. The first instalment is a dedication to Elvo ‘Dr Mavovo’ Diergaardt, the late Araffath Muhuure and Mr Glo,” Ndjaronguru said. Tickets are available at The Catch or Divas & Gents Lifestyle Fitness Centre for N$100, and for N$120 at the gate.
DJ workshop
DJ duo The Rhythm - made up of DJ Kido and DJ Sandile - will host a DJ masterclass at The Loft warehouse on Saturday, 9 March, from 12:00 to 16:00. The event will feature guest speaker Bokkie Alt from South Africa, alongside local pioneers in the industry. “This masterclass promises to be an enlightening journey into the worlds of rhythm and beats,” the DJ duo shared.
Opera night
In celebration of International Women's Day, the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre has partnered with the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) to host an opera night tonight. The show will take place at NTN and will feature French pianist and opera singer Kaoli Ono and Cyrielle Ndjiki, collectively known as the Ndjiki Ono duo. They will perform a recital of French opera and cabaret songs. Tickets are available via Webtickets.
