The birth of TabulaRasa: Music, transformation and community

SILKE BLAAUW
Founded by Leonardus Erasmus (MeloManiac), Anton Steyn (PsyMax) and Norman Swart (MindFreak), TabulaRasa is a unique new movement born from passion, vision and a deep connection to music, set to redefine the Namibian music scene.

“What started as a shared dream among us has blossomed into a vibrant and expanding community,” shared Erasmus, founder of BrandsByAura, who has dedicated himself to shaping the festival’s brand identity into something visually captivating.

This event marks the first in a series of 'chapters', each with a unique theme building upon the last. These smaller events in Windhoek will lead up to a weekend experience outside the city on 31 August 2025. Chapter 1 will kick off this coming Saturday, 31 August, from 11:00 to 23:00 at Eagles in Avis.

The venue offers a bar and swimming pool alongside cash-only stalls, including crafts from Creations of Momo, incense from Safmed Pharmacy, and a live art session and exhibition by members of Omidi Creative House.

TabulaRasa will feature house, techno and psytrance genres. With a carefully curated line-up of 11 talented DJs, immersive visuals and a natural setting, the event aims to create a holistic experience that leaves a lasting impression on all attendees.

“We wish to move away from the mainstream and deliver a totally unique experience. The idea is to create a community of people who have a shared passion for music and to form a narrative that allows attendees to explore new themes, sounds and experiences,” Swart said.

The name TabulaRasa comes from a Latin phrase meaning 'clean slate' or 'new beginning'. It reflects the philosophical idea that we are born without any innate knowledge, predetermined goals or preconceived ideas, and that our identity is shaped solely through our experiences and interactions with the environment.

“Our name reflects our commitment to starting anew, wiping the slate clean, and creating unforgettable memories through music and connection,” Erasmus said.

Pre-sale tickets are available at the Biltong Shop, Maerua Mall, for N$100. Tickets will also be available at the door.
