Soulful beats and captivating rhythms
DJ duo captures hearts
From studio chills to captivating thrills: A Gulp's Worth redefines the music scene.
Hailing from the vibrant coastal town of Walvis Bay, DJ duo A Gulp's Worth has been captivating audiences with soulful and captivating music.
Recently, the duo – made up of Rodney Taylor and Petrus Kamati - released a four-track EP, ‘Buru's Odyssey’, which is available on all streaming platforms.
They said each song on the EP reflects their distinct sound, showcasing their versatility and dedication to their unique style. True to their love for music, they are already hard at work finishing their next EP, with the release of the first single just around the corner, they shared.
Relaxed and casual
With no set formula, A Gulp's Worth told tjil that they create their music in a relaxed and casual manner.
“Studio sessions often occur while chilling, playing Fifa or smoking hookah. We work with FL Studio or Logic Pro, and together we bounce ideas back and forth until we reach the perfect harmonies,” Kamati said.
He mentioned ‘Deep In The City Coastal Edition’ and ‘Casa De Afro’ as some of A Gulp's Worth's most memorable performances to date.
“These experiences have allowed us to connect with our growing fan base and showcase our talent in the vibrant music scene of Walvis Bay,” Taylor added.
Dream collabs
On where they draw their musical inspiration from, Taylor shared that they are influenced by a wide range of artists and musical styles.
“Some artists who have inspired our sound include Culoe De Song, Lemon & Herb, Atmos Blaq and the Keinnemusik Crew,” he said.
Kamati noted that their dream collaborations and dream projects include working with The Ells and Zesh Domingo.
“I believe we can create something magical with those guys.”
The art of the remix
“We really enjoy remixing and would love to have access to the official acapellas of some of the legendary songs from artists we grew up listening to. The likes of the Kalaharians, Tate Kwela, Gazza and Qonja.
“We believe that we can bring life back into those tunes and make them playable in the club,” Kamati mused.
Wrapping up the conversation with tjil, the duo announced that they will be releasing a single accompanied by remixes from a couple of their music-making friends soon, while one more EP will drop before the year is over.
