In a momentous stride for Namibian representation on the international stage, Sean Kamati, a gifted vocalist from Namibia, is making waves on X Factor Malta.

In an exclusive interview with Namibian Sun, Kamati opened up about his X Factor journey, the challenges faced, and the impact he hopes to make for aspiring Namibian artists.

Navigating the intricate landscape of a foreign competition, Kamati expressed gratitude for the warm reception he has received in Malta.

"It's always scary being a foreigner in another country. However, I have been so blessed to be warmly welcomed by the Maltese people. They are people who love music and being entertained no matter where it comes from," Kamati said.

Reflecting on the behind-the-scenes reality of the show, Kamati acknowledged the exhaustive effort required to make a television spectacle work. "It has taught me that I don't know everything and that there is always something new one can learn," he noted.

The competition has not been without its challenges. Kamati revealed the poignant reality that, while embraced by the Maltese public, he yearns for the support of his fellow Namibians, who are unable to vote due to restrictions.

Reach for your dreams

Yet, undeterred, Kamati sees this as an opportunity to encourage his compatriots to take risks and pursue their dreams.

As an ambassador for Namibia, Kamati passionately urged aspiring artists to "go for your dreams," emphasising the importance of reaching for new heights in one's craft.

He stressed the need for a cultural shift in Namibia, advocating for the recognition of art as a legitimate career rather than a mere hobby.

Support

Addressing the voting restrictions, Kamati called on Namibians to support him through alternative means, such as sharing posts and engaging with content. "Every form of engagement counts," he emphasised.

Proud of his Namibian heritage, Kamati acknowledged that his musical style might not be inherently Namibian, but he makes a conscious effort to represent his roots. Expressing a desire to collaborate with Namibian artists, Kamati aims to follow in the footsteps of legends like Jackson Kaujeua and Ras Sheehama, who brought authentic Namibian music to the international stage.
