SA’s Mi Casa heading to Nam
Don’t miss South African juggernauts Mi Casa when they perform in Windhoek on Saturday, 2 December!
Having stormed onto the charts in 2011, this South African trio melds house music, cutting-edge Afrobeats and modern jazz textures into rousing, meditative sonic journeys.
Producer Dr Duda, vocalist/guitarist JSomething, and trumpeter Mo-T came together during a nightclub jam session in Johannesburg in 2011 and quickly built an exciting creative rapport, releasing their self-titled debut LP later that year.
While Dr Duda was already a respected producer on the national stage, early Mi Casa singles like "These Streets" allowed Mo-T's classic jazz influences to shine, while the earnest storytelling of "La Vida" put a loving spotlight on J'Somethings’ Portuguese heritage.
Climbing the charts
The group's meteoric rise led to consistent chart dominance: They went to No. 1 with their 2013 sophomore LP Su Casa, formed their label 34 Music shortly thereafter, and have constantly broadened their house and nu-disco sonic palette while incorporating a variety of organic percussion instruments.
In 2014, the band performed at the Ultra Music Festival in South Africa on the Soul Candi stage, and they were also nominated for the MTV Africa Music Awards (MTV MAMAs) in 2014 and 2016.
In November 2015, their third studio album, Home Sweet Home, was released in South Africa. The album includes the collaboration of Cassper Nyovest, Big Nuz & DJ Tira, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, DJ Euphonik, and Sauti Soul.
In 2017, 'Nana' was released as the trio’s fourth studio album, Familia, to lead the top 30 radio charts. This album earned them three nominations at the 24th South African Music Awards.
In 2020, they signed a record deal with Universal Music and their fifth studio album We Made It was released in South Africa. The single "Mamela" was released as a second single and certified gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) in early 2021. This album also received two SAMA nominations for Best Produced Video and Best Dance Album.
Mi Casa performs at WHS Vegkop at a show that also features several other exciting DJs. Tickets start at N$450 and are available via https://eticket.my.na/
