Rising star Patricia set to dazzle at 2024 Namibia Tourism Expo
From lockdown discovery to national sensation
Before she jets off to Los Angeles for another competition, songbird Patricia will grace the stage at the Namibia Tourism Expo, set to take place from 24 to 26 April.
Namibian singer Patricia's popularity has quickly grown since her 2020 debut. Her achievements include winning second place at Voice of Namibia 2023, representing Team Namibia at Talent America and the World Championships of the Performing Arts, and winning overall senior vocalist at The Singing Academy last year. tjil caught up with her as she prepares for her Namibia Tourism Expo performance...
tjil (t): As a rising star on the Namibian music scene, could you share with our readers the genre of music you specialise in? What influences your musical style?
Patricia (P): I take on a variety of genres, but my main genre is country music. This is mainly because it is the type of music I grew up listening to. My parents would blast Don Williams and Dolly Parton and I just fell in love with country music.
t: Performing at the expo is a significant milestone for any artist. What does this opportunity mean to you personally and professionally?
P: Opportunities like performing at the Namibia Tourism Expo expose artists to the country and allow them to connect with other artists. I am only now finding my feet in the Namibian entertainment industry, and opportunities like these just set the pace for me. I have a very big competition coming up in Los Angeles in June, so to be able to conquer the big stages in Namibia really helps me overcome the nerves and also helps me find my groove on stage.
T: Your fans, both old and new, are eagerly awaiting your set at the expo. Without giving too much away, what can they expect from your performance? Any surprises in store?
P: I think my set list - in terms of song choice - will be a surprise because, like I said, there won’t just be country music. I am known as a singer who demands attention by performing ballads that don’t require a lot of stage movement and are more slow-paced and easy-going, but with the expo, a lot more can be expected.
T: The exposure from performing at a large event like the Namibia Tourism Expo can have a profound impact on an artist's career. How do you hope this performance will influence your musical journey moving forward?
P: Firstly, I would love to network with the other artists performing. I saw the line-up and it is extremely exciting. The hope is to one day collaborate with these Namibian artists and, of course, learn from them, especially those who have been in the industry much longer than I have. Secondly, I hope this opportunity will expose me more to the Namibian people and that more people get to know about me and my sound.
