South Africa’s top actress Nomzamo Mbatha continues to shine on international shores after scooping the Best African Actress award at the Septimius Awards in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Mbatha received the award for her performance as lead Queen Nandi in 'Shaka iLembe'. The Septimius Awards are an international award ceremony showcasing feature films, documentaries, shorts, animations, television series, and screenplays.

Bomb Productions executive producer Desiree Markgraaff led the congratulatory messages to Mbatha. "Congratulations to the beautiful and talented Nomzamo Mbatha, winner of the 2024 Best African Actress at Septimius Awards, Amsterdam, for her role as Queen Nandi in Shaka Ilembe.”

Talents recognised

'Shaka iLembe' won big at the Septimius Awards as the talented Sheli Masondo won Best Costume Design in a TV series. The second season of 'Shaka iLembe' is already in development and will be "coming soon", continuing the story as Shaka begins his long-prophesied reign, writing himself into history.

“MultiChoice is committed to telling the ‘Shaka iLembe' story, and this season 2 announcement confirms our intentions to honour the iconic figure of King Shaka with a continuation of his story on air.

“The fact that viewers across South Africa, and indeed the continent, have been so passionately supportive of the show, tuning in to watch weekly, sharing their commentary online and really engaging with this layered story of the Nguni Kingdoms, has been fantastic. We are now looking forward to bringing season 2 to life," said MultiChoice CEO of general entertainment, Nomsa Philiso.
