Namibian Afrikaans rapper Ixa calls aspiring songwriters to AKTV-Crescendo
Ixa, the renowned Namibian Afrikaans rapper, is calling upon aspiring songwriters to apply for the AKTV-Crescendo music talent development project.
Speaking to Namibian Sun, Ixa, who doubles as the brand ambassador and talent scout for AKTV-Crescendo Namibia, clarified that this initiative is not a competition but a development course aimed at nurturing budding songwriters and musicians.
"What is happening now is that the call for applications is open, and interested songwriters and musicians can apply via the website www.crescendo.org.za at a fee of N$50. Just scroll down to the 'Namibia registration form,'" Ixa explained. The deadline for entries is Sunday, 29 September. Applicants stand a chance to attend the workshops in October, with the possibility of being chosen for the grinding school in South Africa in 2025.
Ixa emphasized the importance of this opportunity, noting the scarcity of similar platforms in Namibia. "Twenty songwriters from Windhoek and Walvis Bay, respectively, will be selected. Of those 20, three will be flown to Cape Town for a week-long workshop on music business. It’s an all-expenses-paid trip, and all you need is a passport," he said. In addition to the workshop, AKTV-Crescendo will provide opportunities for these artists to perform at small venues in Cape Town.
The initiative doesn’t end there. "Ten finalists will be selected to undergo a more extensive development program next year and will be awarded prize money to launch their careers," Ixa summed up.
For over 40 years, AKTV-Crescendo has been offering aspiring songwriters the chance to hone their talents in South Africa. Now, Namibian artists have a unique opportunity to be part of this esteemed program, promising a significant boost to their musical journeys.
