As the Miss Namibia 2024 competition heats up, one of the top 10 finalists, Preclina Sagarias, reflects on her aspirations and the unique blend of experiences that have brought her to this stage.

In an exclusive interview with tjil, Sagarias attributed her success in the competition thus far to passion, hard work and resilience. "Just like any other leadership position, Miss Namibia requires dedication and passion," she said. "I’ve been working hard and putting my best foot forward. I'm passionate about empowering young Namibian minds and showing them that perseverance is key to achieving their dreams."

Balancing her legal career and modelling work has been a significant challenge for Sagarias.

A lawyer by profession, she paused her role as a candidate legal practitioner to fully dedicate herself to the Miss Namibia competition. "It wasn't easy to balance both, so I had to make a choice," she explained. "I’m fortunate to have a university qualification and to have had a full-time job, but it took a lot of faith to pursue my passion full-time."

Personal growth

This is not her first time competing in Miss Namibia.

Reflecting on her previous experience, she expressed gratitude for the lessons learned. "I now know who I am and why I want what I want. This time, I’m more focused and able to enjoy the journey."

Her primary goal in this year’s competition is to remain true to herself. "There is so much power in knowing yourself and staying true to who you are," she said.

Unlike her previous participation, Sagarias now dreams of being on the Miss Universe stage. "I wasn’t confident in my abilities before, but a lot has changed within me."

Through her experiences, Preclina has discovered new strengths, particularly in her creative pursuits. "I’ve been vlogging parts of my journey, which has made me appreciate my creativity. I’m passionate about film, and YouTube has become my way of being a filmmaker."

Crowning highlight

One of the highlights so far has been the support from the Miss Namibia Organisation.

"Miss Umbi Karuaihe-Upi, the CEO, always encourages us. It makes a huge difference to work with a team that has our best interests at heart."

If crowned Miss Namibia, Sagarias plans to focus on quality education for Namibian children, especially in the arts. "We need artists and creatives just as much as professionals in other fields. Art is a real job, and creativity matters," she stressed.

She also aims to amplify the 'Donate a Book' campaign by the Purple Pencil Foundation, which collects books for rural schools. "Reading is essential for expanding vocabulary, enhancing knowledge and fostering creativity," she emphasised.

*The Miss Namibia 2024 crowning event is set to take place in July. tjil will run weekly profiles of the top 10 finalists leading up to the crowning event.
