Namibian music has birthed yet another diamond in the form of Latoya Stella. The Afrobeat artist who has had the streets talking after the success of her single ‘Go’ possesses all the ingredients that make a great performing artist. She is beautiful, sonically experimental, can dance and has charisma. tjil caught up with her to discuss her latest single, ‘My Pace’, and all things music.
tjil (t): Your music has quickly caught the attention of many. How would you describe your sound?
Latoya Stella (LS): I create music that's deeply rooted in Afrobeats and Afro-pop. It's a blend that really speaks to my cultural heritage and personal style. I love merging traditional sounds with contemporary beats to create something unique and vibrant.
t: With 'Go' hitting 40 000 views on YouTube in two months and 'My Pace' just released, how has the Namibian audience received your music?
LS: The Namibian audience has been incredibly supportive of my music. Seeing 'Go' hit 40 000 views on YouTube was amazing, and the reception to 'My Pace' has been just as enthusiastic. It's been heart-warming to see my music resonate with so many people here.
t: With two singles out, can your fans expect a full body of work soon - perhaps an EP or an album? If so, what can you share about the creative process behind this body of work?
LS: Absolutely! My fans can definitely expect a full body of work soon. I'm currently putting together an EP that I'm really excited about. The creative process has been a journey of self-discovery and pushing my boundaries. I'm pouring everything I have into this project, and I can't wait to share it.
t: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
LS: I find inspiration in myself – my experiences, my dreams, my struggles and my triumphs. My music is a reflection of my journey, and through it, I aim to connect with others on a deeply personal level.
t: And finally, what are your musical aspirations?
LS: My aspirations in music are boundless. I aim to leave a lasting impact, to inspire others and to continue evolving as an artist. I dream of taking my music to international stages, collaborating with artists from different genres, and, ultimately, creating a legacy that resonates with people across the globe.
