Jovanko drops new music
Chef by day, rapper by night
Namibian musician and chef Jovanko stands as a testament to the relentless pursuit of multifaceted dreams.
After weeks of teasing, today Jovanko released his new single ‘Where We Going’ and announced his third EP, ‘Hope This Finds You Well’, set for release on Thursday, 4 April.
In conversation with tjil, he divulged that the EP comprises five meticulously crafted songs, all produced by the talented Ian Lovly. Jovanko also mentioned that the project features two exclusive collaborations by South African artists, further enriching the auditory experience.
Describing the EP's sound, he characterised it as a soulful R&B project with a touch of hip-hop, intending to offer a seamless transition for his audience into his diverse world of dreams. For Jovanko, this release not only signifies a milestone in his career, but also stands as a declaration of possibility — the possibility to pursue multiple dreams simultaneously, inspired by figures like Lioness, who is a doctor and a rapper.
"This is just a transition for people to see that it is possible to live both your dreams; you just have to keep doing it," he said.
Dual identity
Jovanko's dual identity as a chef and musician underscores a broader narrative of artistic and personal versatility. "It is hard for people to differentiate that I am a chef and I make music," he shared, highlighting the unique blend of passions that define his career.
With ‘Hope This Finds You Well’, he aspires to showcase his sonic diversity, venturing into realms unexpected by his audience. "I am hoping to show music fans diversity because I am going to enter a sound they never expected, and from here on, it will always be like that," Jovanko said.
When probed about his position in the music industry, he candidly expressed feeling underrated. “I believe this is a sentiment rooted in the cultural nuances of Namibia's music scene, which often only recognises artists once they've achieved monumental success. So it doesn't deter my spirit.
“I just focus on making music and trust that the right people will receive it and appreciate it,” he said.
Exploration and innovation
As ‘Where We Going’ paves the way for ‘Hope This Finds You Well’, Jovanko's journey unfolds with the promise of further exploration and innovation.
With another music video in the pipeline and yet another EP on the horizon for this year, the musician and chef continues to chart a course of artistic exploration and personal fulfillment, inviting listeners and fellow dreamers alike to join him on this boundless journey.
