Fresh FM dismisses D-Jay’s claims
Following award-winning rapper D-Jay's allegations yesterday that local radio station Fresh FM has been rejecting his new releases, the station put out an official statement dismissing his claims.
In a social media post, D-Jay - real name Diogene Ochs - shared that he has sent emails with the right documentation to the radio station, even submitting his music on its website.
“I also didn't swear or use the n***a word you guys said I can’t use. ‘Rock With Me’ is one of the cleanest songs I have recorded, but [it still] didn't get uploaded,” he claimed.
In the statement today, the station said: “As confirmed by Fresh FM’s music manager Winelia Orange, D-Jay's 'Rock With Me' was playlisted and is in rotation as of 8 August. This was communicated with the artist on 24 October, when he enquired.
"Local music will remain a crucial part of Fresh FM’s content and we will endeavour to support local artists on our platform,” it said.
On D-Jay’s claims that the radio station does not pay royalties, it clarified that “Future Media currently remains in good standing with the Communication Regulatory Authority of Namibia [CRAN] as well as with the Namibian Society of Composer and Authors of Music [Nascam]. We would urge artists who have queries in this regard to communicate with the relevant authority directly".
