Windhoek’s comedy scene is about to get a major boost as the Savanna Namibia Comedy Festival, hosted by Alien Art Studios, debuts on Saturday, 2 November, at the Old Brewer’s Courtyard in Windhoek.

Billed as the biggest event in Namibian comedy, the festival promises a packed schedule of humour, entertainment and local culture.

According to Alien Art Studios, the day will kick off with a workshop for 14 selected comedians and progress to an exciting line-up of competitions, performances and festivities, creating an inclusive space for laughter and a community connection.

“Highlighting the day will be the ‘Dad Jokes’ tournament, a light-hearted battle of pun-heavy punchlines, where participants aim to deliver the funniest and most groan-inducing one-liners.

“Following this is the ‘Savanna So You Think You're a Comedian Comedy Showdown’ featuring Namibia’s finest comedic talent along with guest acts Triccs from Botswana, MoeLatif from South Africa, Maforty from Zimbabwe, and Johnny Pula from Botswana,” Alien Art Studios noted.

Unique event

In addition, the seasoned comics will compete in a fast-paced format designed to keep audiences on their toes with unexpected twists and belly laughs. Audiences can look forward to a comedy magic show, merging the art of illusion with humour to keep spectators laughing and amazed.

Adding to the festival’s appeal, there will be a Namibian film screening, offering audiences a chance to enjoy a homegrown cinematic experience that highlights the country’s unique storytelling style and cultural essence.

Festival-goers can explore local food stalls offering traditional Namibian dishes, as well as arts, crafts and clothing from Namibian artisans, allowing visitors to take home a piece of Namibian creativity and craftsmanship. A music bash will cap off the festival, keeping the energy high and the atmosphere festive into the night.
