Don Vino to jazz up the stage at ‘Jazz on the Lawn’

Michael Kayunde
South African saxophonist Don Vino will grace the stage at the highly anticipated ‘Jazz on the Lawn’ event, scheduled for Sunday, 3 December, at the Windhoek High School (WHS) sports field in the capital.

With a star-studded line-up featuring artists like Judith Sephuma, Fu Jazz, Gyzie, Litisha and Major 7th’s Jazz Band, this musical extravaganza promises to be a day to remember.

Don Vino, a passionate and ingenious saxophonist hailing from Elsie’s River in Cape Town, is no stranger to the world of music. According to his biography, his journey began at the tender age of 15 when he started performing with local jazz and gospel bands in and around the Mother City.

Over the years, he has shared the stage with renowned local and international artists, leaving an indelible mark on the arts sector. Not only is he a collaborator, philanthropist and businessman, but it is his solo talent as a saxophonist - showcased through his recent productions like ‘#SaxyVibes’ - that truly sets him apart.

Boundless passion

Don Vino's musical journey has taken him across the globe, touring countries such as the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Nigeria and Kenya with various bands, leaving audiences mesmerised by his melodious tunes.

What's remarkable about the musician is his versatility. He refuses to be confined to a specific genre, and his repertoire spans across jazz, gospel, R&B and even Afrikaans music, reflecting his boundless passion for music in all its forms.

Among his notable releases is his debut single 'Worried', followed his 2018 album 'All The Way', which features the legendary Vicky Sampson.

In May 2019, he wowed audiences at the Grand Arena in Cape Town with the third instalment of his highly acclaimed production, ‘#SaxyVibes’, where he collaborated with artists like PJ Powers, Jarred Rickets and Amy Jones.
