Deadly Ground Records releases new EP, ‘Family’
Teamwork makes the dream work
The project blends music and social advocacy, tackling themes of unity, gender-based violence and mental health.
Since its founding in 2020, Deadly Ground Records has aimed to unite diverse musical talents under one roof with a vision of collaboration and social impact.
The collective’s latest project, the ‘Family’ EP, marks its fourth release, offering a genre-spanning compilation that includes dancehall, hip-hop and Afro-fusion influences.
The EP, released on Friday, 1 November, brings together artists including Dark Vapour, Reyne, Exile, CJP and Carry K across five tracks, each weaving a unique narrative.
But ‘Family’ is more than just music. Designed as a social project, Deadly Ground is linking the EP to school visits and community events focused on raising awareness around gender-based violence and mental health. This aligns with the group’s mission to use music as a tool for education and advocacy.
Everyone plays a role
Speaking on her contribution to the project, Dark Vapour said her song, titled ‘Where are we Going’, is close to her heart.
“This song is very dear to me. It is a dedication to us all that we have a role to play in society. So much is going on around our households, workplaces, schools and community, but as much as we are aware or know what to do, we turn a blind eye. In the process, somebody is in pain, somebody is dying, and somebody is calling for help.”
‘Family’ EP is available for free download on ZED360 and Donlu Africa, broadening access to its message-driven content.
To celebrate, Deadly Ground Records will hold a live launch concert on Saturday, 30 November, in Windhoek, inviting fans and supporters to join the journey of musical and social connection. “I am going to give a live performance. I want to present the music in a different way from when you stream it. I have also been working on new music so I might perform some unreleased material as well,” Dark Vapour said.
