In an exciting new collaboration, Alien Art Studios has joined forces with Savanna to launch the ‘So You Think You're a Comedian’ comedy showdown, a nationwide search designed to unearth Namibia's comedic talent. This initiative was announced at a media launch by Mitch Gaoseb, comedian and CEO of Alien Art Studios, this week.

Registration for the competition opened on Thursday, 1 August, with auditions scheduled to run from 16 August to 26 October. These auditions will take place in major towns across all 14 regions of Namibia. The comedic journey will culminate in a comedy festival at the beginning of November, followed by the grand finale at comedy awards in December.

"We are excited to partner with Savanna to bring this unique comedy showdown to Namibia," Gaoseb said. The competition aims to discover comedians from across the country who will compete for the coveted title of Namibia's funniest comedian. The winner will receive a cash prize of N$50 000 and the opportunity to headline the Namibian Comedy Club Series' first show in February 2025.

Auditions will be held in Windhoek, Rundu, Swakopmund, Ongwediva, Tsumeb, Nkurenkuru, Mariental, Keetmanshoop, Walvis Bay, Katima Mulilo, Opuwo, Outapi and Eenhana. Aspiring comedians are encouraged to register via namibia-breweries-limited.com/savannasytyc.

Next big name

Finalists will compete in the comedy festival in Windhoek on Saturday, 2 November, where four comedians will be selected for the Savanna 'So You Think You’re a Comedian' champion category at the Savanna Annual Namibian Comedy Awards. The public will vote for the winner, who will be announced at a gala dinner.

"We can't wait to discover the next big name in Namibian comedy and share their talent with the nation. We encourage all aspiring comedians to register and showcase their skills on stage," Gaoseb said.

Only contestants over the age of 18 at the date of entry are eligible to participate. Interested contestants are advised to visit the website for further details on performance guidelines and terms and conditions.

"Participation is subject to the promoter's terms and conditions, and the competition will not tolerate participants who use sensitive, personal or harmful information during shows. The Savanna 'So You Think You're a Comedian' comedy showdown will be conducted under the guidance of its promoters, organisers and sponsors. Neither the promoters, organisers, sponsors nor their employees, associates, contractors or directors will be held liable for the content and views expressed by the comedians during the campaign," the organisers said in a press release.
