Meatco, union conclude successful salary talks
Meatco and the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (Nafau) have successfully concluded wage negotiations and signed a wage and salary agreement for the 2024/25 financial year.
Meatco said the just-concluded negotiations include employees from bargaining units A and B-Bands receiving a 7% and 6% increment, respectively, backdated to March to the end of September.
The company said these employees will receive an additional salary adjustment to be paid in two portions (September 2024 and March 2025) of 50% each.
“Part of the agreement is also that 15 fixed-term contract (FTC) workers identified to have worked for four years consecutively will be offered permanent employment, based on their date of engagement effective upon the signing of this agreement,” the company said.
Another 37 FTCs will be made permanent employees by no later than 31 December 2025.
“All FTC employees will be compensated for a full nine-hour workday, despite early releases from duty resulting from operational demands in the future,” Meatco said.
It said that progressive labour agreements of such a nature foster and strengthen employer, employee and union working relationships to ensure conducive work environments that breed productivity and sustainable organisations.
