#JustIn: Maize and wheat harvest make history

Ellanie Smit
Namibia achieved a historical milestone with its wheat and white maize harvests, both of which were described as the largest since the country began cultivating these crops.

Despite this accomplishment, the nation's overall cereal production experienced a 9% decline for the 2022/23 cropping season when compared to the previous season's harvest.

Nonetheless, this production level remains 23% higher than the 10-year average.

According to crop estimates, the country yielded 153 000 tons, a figure lower than the 168 200 tons produced in the 2021/22 season, but still surpassing the 10-year average production of 124 200 tons.

These findings are detailed in the Crop Prospects Food Security and Drought Situation report. For more information, refer to our newspapers this week.
