The Women and Agriculture Summit will take place at the National Theatre of Namibia (NTN) in the capital city tomorrow.

The summit is an annual event that brings together women interested in farming, agricultural organisations and sponsors to discuss and develop strategies and solutions that will help empower women who farm and ensure their success.

Stakeholders will share best practices and resources, build relationships and networks, and develop initiatives to support and promote women in agriculture while providing invaluable benefits to each participating organisation and sponsor.

The event is coordinated by the Nutrition and Food Security Alliance of Namibia (Nafsan).

Deep dive into farming

This year's conference will focus on harnessing technology and innovation to transform the agricultural sector and the utilisation of these elements to unlock the potential of agriculture and value addition in Africa.

One of the topics to be discussed during the conference includes an economic overview of the agricultural sector. During the second session, a panel discussion will be held on the role of women in technological advancement in agriculture, after which panel members from leading agricultural organisations and technology companies will discuss the future role of women in sustainable agriculture in Africa.

Other topics include access to technology, digital solutions for farming, automation, precision farming, and emerging trends in the industry. During session three, the focus will be on enhancing innovative skills for farmers, while modern techniques such as vertical farming, hydroponics, and greenhouses will also be demonstrated.

Uplifting stories

Successful farmers will share success stories and best practices, while entrepreneurs and forward-thinkers in agriculture will discuss their experiences, challenges, and strategies for harnessing technology and innovation in the industry.

Agricultural processing, value addition, market access, climate-smart farming, and sustainable practices will also be discussed during the summit.

During interactive sessions, discussions will centre on the challenges facing women in the agricultural sector and potential solutions.

Topics that will be covered during session five include access to financing, land rights, education and capacity building, policy advocacy, and the empowerment of women in farming communities.

The conference will conclude with an exhibition and networking opportunity – a dedicated space for farmers, agricultural processing companies, and agricultural technology providers to showcase their products, services, and innovations.
