Agra celebrates 42nd birthday

Ellanie Smit
Agra celebrated its 42nd birthday last week.

At the official celebrations, Agra CEO Arnold Klein, said the company has proven to be a reliable investment.

He said that 42 years ago, organised agriculture in Namibia was established on the foundation of an organised leg, the Namibian Agriculture Union (NAU), and a corporate leg, in the form of Agra.

"From these humble beginnings, Agra has grown into a household name."

He said that their presence in rural Namibia and their investment in local infrastructure across the country provides a stable hub for those who are dependent on agriculture.

"Not only in the form of the various products and services that we offer, but also through employment and skills development of local communities. Namibian producers are safe in the knowledge that Agra will always work tirelessly to provide value to the agricultural sector."

Klein said that through good financial results and organisational leadership, Agra not only offers excellent returns on capital investment, but also dividends that are paid out in times of good financial performance.

New branch

In other news, the new and improved Agra Outjo branch was also officially relaunched last week.

Along with the new building, Agra Outjo now offers a wider range of products.

The development now consists of a 1 158m2 retail branch with a 231m2 mezzanine floor, which replaces the original 394m2 retail area.

The branch boasts a new feedstore of 803m2 and there is an additional 567m2 warehouse.

Furthermore, the branch is equipped with a salt shed and a container roof structure.

The development was completed at a total cost of just over N$18.7 million, excluding value-added tax.

Agra pointed out that in any developing country, it is imperative that top businesses reinvest back into the local economy – not only to stimulate micro-economies at a community level, but also to provide critical access to essential products and services in rural areas.

"Agra believes in Namibia, we believe in agriculture and we believe in showing that we are committed to the greater community through brick and mortar investment," said Henning Tiemann, general manager of Agra Properties.
